What is this site

I am a camp program director and am using this blog to store my ideas and games. It also provides a way to share this information with others and I trust you will find it useful and adaptable to your particular situation. If you would like to post some ideas, please email me under the Contact Me page. For specific items, simply enter the information in the search bar to the right (e.g. "field 100 rope" in the search bar will bring up posts that contain "field, 100, and rope" for activities that can be done in a field with 100 people, and a rope).

If you would like to add additional information to a post, please leave a comment at the bottom. It will not show until it has been approved. Any comment that does not add to the post or is argumentative or nonsense discussion will be removed. This will enable the site to be applicable and relevant.

Pop the Balloon

Posted by admin on April 1st, 2007

As something that can be done near the end of the week is give the campers something to shoot at, if you pin or tape various sized balloons to the targets and get the campers to fire at them. It is important to have balloons of many sizes, this make it easy for some who are not that good and harder for the more advanced shooters. If you have a budget for the candy shop, put little coupons in the balloons and the campers gets the prize if they pop the balloon. Put the better candy in the smaller balloons.

T-Rescues

Posted by admin on March 24th, 2007

In canoeing a t-rescue is where one canoe flips over and another canoe comes up to it at a perpendicular where the nose of the flipped over canoe is at the center of the canoe making a “t.” Then lift the nose of the canoe onto the top of your canoe so that the gunnels are touching. That is one canoe upright with the other canoe upside down on top of the upright one. This drain all the water out of it. Flip it over and slide it back into the water right side up. Then you have two canoes upright. Help the other people into their canoe so that it does not flip again.

Highlight Video

Posted by admin on March 21st, 2007

One idea for the campers is to make them a highlight video for the week. If you are good enough it can be sold to the campers at the end of each week. If your skills are more of a hobbyist instead of a professional the videos can also be put on the camp’s website and the campers can come and view it at a later time. Making a video for the campers will give them something to remember their week at camp and something to watch later on while they are getting excited about the coming summer.
