Kids Sleeping at Night

Posted by admin on March 12th, 2007

If your campers are have trouble sleeping at night or settling down here are a few things to try:

Age 5-7:
Home Sick pills (see post)
After lights out, light a candle and read them a book or bible stories from the Message
Have a bed time routine for them to follow (the same every night)
Let the few that are still struggling move their mattress beside your bed (never let campers sleep in your bed)

Run them hard during the day, never let them nap unless they are sick

Age 12-14
Have a bed time routine for them to follow (the same every night)
Run them hard during the day, don’t let them nap unless they are sick
One rule I had was everyone had to be awake for devo’s but when I was done I would turn on a lamp and have quiet Q&A about anything till either I fell asleep or most of the kids were asleep
Be very strict with them, you need to be in charge or it becomes a game for them

I found that playing soft music or singing my girls to sleep worked wonders. The first week I let them stay up as late as they wanted so long as lights were out and they were so quiet I didn’t hear them in my room (which ajoined theirs). This was a mistake. The rest of the summer I would turn all the lights out and then walk up and down the cabin with a flashlight and my Bible reading to them. After a little bit I would turn off my flashlight and either sing or put on music. The girls loved it and got plenty of sleep.
